I've played quite a few RTS, such as C&C Tiberian Sun, C&C Red Alert 2, C&C Generals, Pharaoh, Age of Empires 2, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Theme Park World, THeme Hospital, and there's probably a few others out there I can't remember. As I said, not many.
Anyway, this one looks so good I didn't get War of the Ring because of it.

Well heres some info for you...
Character interaction... During a test battle between ents and trolls the trolls picked up trees to hit the ents with and the ents through hand fulls of rocks at the trolls after they ran out of rocks the they used chunks of masonary from nearby buildings as missile weapons against nearby orcs...
Immortal Heros... Heros are effectively immortal. They can be badly wounded to appear in the next mission perfectley fine
Traps In Battle for middle-earth players will be able to set traps such as boiling oil and pits ;D. But thats only in castles i think.(article by PCZONE)
Animals... Battle for middle-earth will have lots of animals including oliphaunts (as unit transporters, you can also put a few archers in there to shoot outwards), Wargs, Horses (for the men of Rohan) and many ariel units like the fell beasts
Number of units.... In various demos we witnessed 500,650 and finally 733 on-screen units mantaining a frame rate of around 40 per second mark.
I'll update this later when i have time. It's literally a five page article...
Hope this helps...

I 'll have to get this issue to look at this. I hope this is just a sign of things to come for LOTR games.
