Well yes The Hobbit was definantly a great book, but I personally liked LOTR waaaay better, they were some of my favorite books, if not my favorite, i've read them a few times over, and of course its never as good as the first time but good never the less

While I agree that LoTR was, is, and always will be the best thing to hit this planet, how about the Silmarillion? Its got some great Elven history, even if the book itself is in a slightly sagalike mode of writing which makes it hard to read. I love the parts on Valinor. I wish we could go there......

I am reading the Silmarillion and it is very good. The Hobbit was a great book also. It is really hard to say which is best as they are all brilliant.

I love the Silmarillion. I have always enjoyed sagas, vicking, baolwulf and the others. While it is good, Lord of the Rings is the best. If it wasn’t for that, I would never have read the Silmarillion.

I really liked the hobbit and it was as good as LOTR i thought. definitely, its hard to pick the best between The Hobbit and LOTR, for me I like LOTR because it has more depth and it isn't as much like a children's story as The Hobbit is, but The Hobbit is also important because it gives a little bit of a history of some the characters in LOTR, so I have to conclude that its almost impossible to pick the best between The Hobbit and LOTR

Now that is a Tolkien fan. I have been slowly acquiring the history of Middle earth, but I am no where near all 12. Don’t even have them with me at the moment *walks off to hit his head against a tree*

Elves are so good. But in their history they weren't as kind as loving as they're made out to be in LOTR. A long time ago they had huge battles against eachother.
