Grond was used by Morgorth to kill Fingolfin but in the film they used grond to knock down the gates of minas tirith i don't know whether it in the books are not but could grond really have survived that long...

The books and the films are right. Grond is two things:
One - Morgoth's mace of the First Age, which the Elves of the Second Age would have thought of when they saw Sauron march onto the battlefield with his mace; and;
Two - The battering ram in the shape of a ravenous wolf whose insides "were lit with an infernal light." This was used in the War of the Ring at the Battle of Pelennor Fields ONLY.

A good thing about this forum is you expand your LOTR knowledge every day. ;D

Its amazing what you learn from these sites. ;D
The best "Proper" book for knowledge would have to be the Silmarrilion. But there is the Encyclopeidia. But it isn't really a book as such.
If you get my meaning....

Ive seen the encylodpeadia before, but i didnt think much of it really. If i was going to buy a book for pure knowladge, then id get the silmarrillion.

Yeah. you should. If you do get an encyclopidia then there is the picture one. More pictures than facts.
Or there is the one i've got. More facts. But it has a diagram of the battle of the pellenor feilds.
Maybe i'll get a scanner and scan it on for you guys.

Well, they don't go too in-depth since they're only about 50-75 pages long.
